Can African American hair relaxers be used on asian/caucasian hair? And if so, what are the results?

Absolutely NOT.

If you or anyone you know is thinking about doing this, I would highly reccomend against it. I think if you understood what relaxers are and what they do, you would agree with me.

Relaxers act to, in a sense, ';relax'; african american hair. In it's natural state, african american hair is EXTREMELY curly. So curly in fact, that most Black women choose not to deal with it at all because they believe that their hair is too unmanagable that curly. This is why they get relaxers. The afros that were so popular in the 60's and 70's? That (given variations in texture, length, etc.) is that way that every African American's hair looks in it's natural state. Sadly, many people, including Black people, don't realize this because Black mothers will tend to relax their daughter's hair at a very young age.

But I digress.

Essentially, what a relaxer will do is completely break down the ';curly'; chemical structure of the hair follicle and rebuild it into a ';straight'; chemical structure.

Most caucasian and asians have relatively straight and/or fine hair. But even the women who are an expection to that rule do not have hair that is nearly as curly/resistant as African American hair. I can't say for sure, but more than likely, if a caucasian or asian put an african american relaxer on their hair, it would completely damage it and break it off.

If you are looking to chemically straighten your hair, I have heard of perms that are especially designed for non African American hair but that would definitely be something that is done within a salon and not from home.

Hope this helps. Good luck! Can African American hair relaxers be used on asian/caucasian hair? And if so, what are the results?
They probably can but consult a professional. The chemicals in relaxers are extremely strong and can be damaging to all hair types if not applied properly.
