Do hair relaxers lighten hair color?

Since quite a while ago a lot of people noticed that my hair color has lightened a bit... I thought maybe its a natural genetic change or because of the sun or something.. But I thought too that I apply a chemical hair relaxer to my hair every now and then, so did the hair relaxer lighten my hair color?
