The front side of my hair looks like it is clinched and always contacting my scalp after applying hair relaxer?
Does any one know what mistake happened during relaxing process. and how to avoid in future?
thanks and regards The front side of my hair looks like it is clinched and always contacting my scalp after applying hair relaxer?
When you say clinched do you mean sticking to your scalp? If that's the case then you are either leaving the perm in too long or the perm is too strong for your hair type.
Does a hair relaxer make your hair feel like straw, what can i do to fix it?
My hair was frizzy and dry so I used a relaxer. This has made my hair feel like straw and or the relaxer did not rince out. What can I do to fix it besides cutting it all off?Does a hair relaxer make your hair feel like straw, what can i do to fix it?
Relaxers dry out your hair so make sure you follow it with a good deep conditioning treatment and give it plenty of moisture.
My advice is to research relaxers and how to take care of them, so you can minimize this problem.Does a hair relaxer make your hair feel like straw, what can i do to fix it?
=( My hair after relaxers feels great! But it could be that I use a moisturising relaxer. Just buy a deep conditioning treatment. And treat it twice a day. MAKE SURE YOU RINSE IT OUT TO AVOID BUILDUP!
try leave in conditioner and a real good shampoo

Chemicall relaxers can have different straitening agents. First are the Sodium Hydroxise (lye) relaxers. Then you have the ';no lye'; relaxers. These would be the ones that use an alternative straigtening agent: Lithium, Potassium, Calcium hydroxide or Guanidine Carbonate. The degree of damage even though they are different chemicalls, is the same. It is just a way to fool the uninformed into thinking that the relaxer is less damaging because is a ';no Lye'; relaxer.
Then you have the Thioglycate ralaxers (or Thio). Thio is a milder chemical.
Some of these chemicals like sodium hydroxide or sodium bromate are actually used in sink cloggers because it eats hair. That is why relaxers are so damaging if they are applied incorrectly or overused. Hope that helps. What are the ingredients of hair relaxer?
lye relaxers contain sodium hydroxide as the active ingredient.

Has anyone used baka natural hair relaxer before?
I heard about this relaxer that it does not break the bonds of the hair as it only relaxes it, has anyone used it? is it true? or is it just a gimmick to get our money since a lot of black sisters have started to turn away from chemical hair relaxers? I am trying to stay away from chemical hair relaxers and just looking for alternate healthier options for my hair to become more manageable.Has anyone used baka natural hair relaxer before?
i suggest nooo cuzz i did it and well yea some partas are straight ans some curly so now i defanitlly have to straighten every day :( but if u blow dry all the tiem or just never let it dry alone it should be fine i must say its easier to styleHas anyone used baka natural hair relaxer before?
My experience using the (baka) natural-laxer plus was good, just like they stated...makes the hair more managable, less tangled, soft and lusterous. It's natural alright! But it does not make your hair straight like a regular perm. I would only recommend this product to those with natural hair.
i agree with the lady above a defo for a no no no....its best to use what you know....also do google search on best reported hair relaxers i use DARK n LOVELY it leaves you hair smooth soft and fresh and very moisturized...depends on your hair type.....
Do a search you will get reports of what millions of people rate the best relaxer
type something along the lines of ';what is the best hair relaxer for dry damaged hair....or best relaxer rated by public not to break hair etc....';
or even better ask yahoo people which relaxer they suggest and why
No. It's a advertisement. I used Optimum Hair relaxer and it stated it was redesign to help prevent brekage, but yet I still got breakage (I followed the directions closely).
You should either stick to what you know works (like the above two post) or go to your hair dresser. In the end relaxers basically have the same type of treatment process; however, a few may vary with more conditioners and creames. It's also about the process that you do (timing, hair stregth, type of hair you have, etc).
Personally when I do relaxers I actually do the apply a type of coating on my hair, apply the relaxer, rinse the relaxer out, and then use a deep conditioner, rince and continue with the steps. That's what I do. I have to use a relaxer because if I don't my hair gets super curly and harder to manage. In fact I think my hair comes out more without a relaxer than with one. Good Luck.
I've used the Baka Beauty Natural-Laxer and it is not a true substitute for a chemical straightener. I wear my hair natural and investigated Baka as an alternative to a texturizer for manageability.
I discovered that it was a messy procedure. The Baka clay was difficult to shampoo out and smelled funny. There is not enough Baka shampoo or conditioner provided to adequately cleanse or condition the hair after the clay. After the entire situation was finished, my hair was indeed more manageable. It was slight and would definitely require multiple applications to be worthwhile. Having medium length hair, the price tag for the appropriate amount would be near ridiculous.
After some research on NaturallyCurly.com, however, I found that I could recreate this by applying Queen Helene's Mud Masque to my hair instead. At near 2.50$ a bottle, it became a much more reasonable solution. (Also, the clay has a very nice clarifying property--something that I find exceptionally helpful when dealing with hard water here in Germany.)
If you are looking for a relaxer replacement, this would not be the solution unless you are prepared to attempt the procedure NUMEROUS times. Even then, I believe it would be most like a texturizer and would not provide you with an easy to maintain straight look.
I did when I was transitioning from my curly perm, and It loosed my curls. No notice of damage of any sort. I still have a bit of the product and may used it on my natural hair now.dermalogica

What relaxers/chemicals do i use for my hair?
i am a black guy and i am currently keeping an afro, please i want to know what kinda relaxers/chemicals to use on my hair to make it look good! What relaxers/chemicals do i use for my hair?
Keep your natural hair, hon. Men look so much better with natural hair, and once you put the chemicals in, that's it. It has to grow out before you can ever put back in dreds, braids won't hold as well, you'll have to condition it more often, and there's fewer ways you can wear it.
Get a sister or cousin or female friend to flat iron your hair for you first and wear it a few days - see if that's what you REALLY want before you do it permanently. What relaxers/chemicals do i use for my hair?
Because you're a man, you probably shouldn't use the same kind of relaxers that women use. I would go to a salon, first, because you've been wearing your hair natural, which is beautiful, by the way, a hair stylist can straighten your hair without harsh chemicals to see if you prefer that style, first. Then, if you do, they will be able to offer you the BEST advice on how to maintain your quaff. Good luck, Hon.

How many times do i have to wash my hair after relaxer?
My mom says its good to wash my wash every two days for about a month after a perm. But i wanted to get sew in extensions and if i get that i'll leave it in for like 3 weeks is that ok not washing my hair for 3 weeks?I've already washed it twice before this as i put it on monday. How many times do i have to wash my hair after relaxer?
You don't need to wash your hair that much. Now did you have a relaxer or a perm? With a relaxer you straighten the hair a perm makes it curly. If you wash your that much you dry it out. and you shouldn't braid the hair after you relax it because a relaxer weakens the hair and braiding it doesn't help. usually when i sew hair in i only braid what is going to be left out.
Do relaxers stop ur hair from growing?
i just got my hair relaxed again and now i'm worried cause people have been telling me relaxers stop ur hair from growing! Is that true. I only want people who have relaxers to tell me because i want my hair to be 3 inches past my shoulders and right now its shoulder length. Will my hair still grow if i take good care of it?Do relaxers stop ur hair from growing?
relaxers don'tt stop your from growing poor maintenance does. i had my hair relaxed for the past 10 years now and i can honestly say as long as i kept it greased(light pomade) and only relaxed it every 2 to 3 months ( or every 6 to 7 washes) my hair continued to grow.
when ever my hair was due for a touch up before the 6 to 7 washes i wore natural styles like corn braids or i would corn brain my hair straight back and leave it in over night while it was a little damp and then i would take out the braids in the morning and would have that wet wavy look to my hair which is nice.Do relaxers stop ur hair from growing?
I've been relaxing my hair about once a month ever since i was about 4 or 5 years old. I'm 20 now and my hair grows really fast, that's why i relax it so often the only thing is my hair gets really dry so i wash it once a week in dove intensive moisturizing shampoo and conditioner. That makes it more healthy and keeps it from breaking off. My two sisters' hair is very long, almost to the waist and they relax their hair also. I haven't seen any problems, just don't over process.
yes it will relaxers help ur hair grow trust it happened to me.
no seems like it sped up

What is a good hair relaxer for african american?
Hi,
I use a No-Lye relaxer. I've always heard that you should use No-Lye, but after researching and using haircare forums. I've found that Lye relaxers may actually be better. But I'm sticking with what I know works best. I use Organic Root Stimulator Olive Oil Relaxers because I love how soft my hair feels afterwards. And I just love all of the ORS products. It does wonders for helping hair grow and keeping it moisturized. It also helps give your hair great ';swang'; and shine after straightening it, lol. Anyway, I've also used other relaxers such as Creme of Nature. Silk Elements may be a good one. I love silk elements products.
Hope that helpsWhat is a good hair relaxer for african american?
something that doesnt require you to touch it. you might not ever be able to grip anything again with the large layer of grease

After a relaxer, I usually wash my hair once a week. But if you plan on getting sew in extensions, you need to wash you hair before you get them, and after you get the extensions in go to your stylist once a week so that they can wash it and keep it looking nice. Don't try to wash your extensions yourself because it doesn't look right, at all.
What Is The Best Gurantee To Straighten Out Your Hair Shampoo Relaxer?
Any relaxers that you can use in the showers you can do yourself instead of having someone to do it for you. Also ones you can find in store like walgreens or local stores. And would straighten out the most waviest hair out there! What Is The Best Gurantee To Straighten Out Your Hair Shampoo Relaxer?
i like using dish liquid. seriously its great. What Is The Best Gurantee To Straighten Out Your Hair Shampoo Relaxer?
Of course, walmart has loads, My friend uses soft and beatiful perm kit, and it relaxes your hair, you also ccan chose by the other brands. But if you dont want a relaxer, just use a texture softener
None of those have ever really worked for me. I bought a flat iron straightener thing and now my hair looks great everyday.
The easiest thong to do is you should get a flat iron that can go up to about 500 degress thenput it about on 350 and use it. You can get these at the beaty supply store for about no more than 30.00 or it may be higher in diffrent location. But check it out.
the best guarantee you can get is .... Pay to have it done. Relaxers are made of Sodium Hydroxide (lye) and it you don't keep the hair straight during the process and the neutralizing shampoo doesn't clean the hair and scalp thoroughly, your hair may begin to revert quickly. From starting to apply until rinsing should take a maximum of 20 mins. good luckdermalogica

Okay i have a couple questions about hair relaxers etc.?
1. i use just for me [regular]. is it actually less harsh on hair ?!
2. do you have to cut your hair when you stop wanting perms? my mom says if you stop gettin perms it will tangle up at the roots and break off.
3. earlier today someone made a comment about me not having edges [although my hair looks the same when i need a touch up, i think it may appear thinner because of the perm], do perms burn away edges?Okay i have a couple questions about hair relaxers etc.?
1. Most people use regular and it is sufficient. Is it less harsh on hair compared to ???? A super, perhaps but it depends on the person, their hair type, the application, etc...
2. Not necessarily, if you take care of it. Basically the straighter ends can break because you have to agitate your natural hair at the roots (new growth) more when wet, especially once you get more than 3-4inches of new growth. The place where the new growth %26amp; relaxed hair meet is delicate. Plus some people think it looks odd because the ends will look thinner cause its straight, while the hair at the roots looks fuller. So when people know they are going back natural they'll cut their hair short (pixie/bobs), if not shave it down so they don't deal with the hassle. To avoid a bog chop up front some people wear braids and weaves for months until the natural hair gets to a length they can wear the fro, dreds, twisties the way they like.
3. If your relaxer is not applied properly your hair might break on the edges, if you pull your hair back too taut for too long, the edges might break - but thats true of braids/natural styles as well.

Are chemical relaxers the reason for many black women having flat hair?
Ive seen alot of african american women hair and alot of it seems flat, ouled and lifeless. why is it they never have volumeAre chemical relaxers the reason for many black women having flat hair?
I agree with sarah.
The hair is overprocessed. When they relax it they do it until it is BONE STRAIGHT, and you are nOT supposed to do that beause it damages the hairAre chemical relaxers the reason for many black women having flat hair?
I don't know if that's the reason or not. But I hate touching my hair. I'm very tender headed. I won't lie though. my hair does look dull and boring. But I do know how to lighten it up a little bit when I feel like it. If we curl it we do have volume. my hair is also thick.
Never have volume? That sounds like your hair.
Yes, its called a flat iron.
We have the thickest, most voluminous hair in the world.
I have noticed that those who ask these questions want our kind of hair. You flatter me.
Take it as a complement, people.
Black people have the thickest hair in the world. I think the hair you are seeing is over processed. That causes the hair to break and thin out.
the women you are seeing might just have flat hair b/c black women have the thickest and most volumed hair w/out spray. relaxers just make your hair more manageable .
Potentially.
No.

i dont know im not a black lady
It's the chemicals, and texture of their hair.
nope
mine is because i flat iron it

Hair relaxer what is the difference between one that says no-lye and regular, also can it be used on?
previously colored hair? The one I'm thinking of buying is made for afro type hair. It's for my daughter (hispanic) her hair is naturally curly like Julia Roberts. Does that make a difference? Thanks for the help.Hair relaxer what is the difference between one that says no-lye and regular, also can it be used on?
Go with ';No-Lye';, if you are really bent on using the stuff. Lye, or Sodium Hydroxide, is in essence, drain cleaner.
However, you may want to reconsider having her hair ';relaxed';, once it's done, it's done. Also, ';No-Lye'; can still be rather harsh, and can still cause hair loss and the like if it is not done right! It especially important if your daughter is rather young still.
In any case, the links below should help you make an informed choice.Hair relaxer what is the difference between one that says no-lye and regular, also can it be used on?
lye is the ingredient that was used in the first relaxers but it can be too strong for most hair types. regular usually refers to no lye. i dont think you should use either. you should take her to a professional where they can give her a relxer for virgin hair that has never been processed

I need info about hair relaxers!?
I have been straightening my hair for a very long time, and this year I want to get a relaxer put in my hair so I wount have to stress every morning about straightening my hair.
Can you give me as much information as possible about how to care for my hair after I relax my hair, and how many days I have to wait untill I can get my hair wet, and if it damages my hair that much, and should I do it myself or goto a salon.. ect.
Sites that tell me about it would help also, and anything else you think woulod help.
Oh and about how much do you think it would cost to go to a salon and get it done?
Thanks!!I need info about hair relaxers!?
Listen VERY Carefully
DONT GET A RELAXER
get the SEDU straightening iron
whenever you stop apply the perm your hair will break off so you will have to retouch every 6 weeks
Which would you rather
a relaxer and other hair care essentials $25 every 6 weeks forever
or
a SEDU??? ($150)
You just need to get a really good iron and use REDKEN antifrizz so that you can stand in mist and not have your hair poof out and then wrap your hair up at night cuz it'll stay straight until you wash it
btw anyone who tells you to Relax you hair is crazy.

LISTEN VERY CAREFULLY. Do not use hair relaxer. It will mess up your hair so do not start. Trust me, many members of my family have used relaxers and their soft curls have become dry and they easily break off. Try using a thinner plate on your straightner/try buying a different hairspray or mousse.
1. First you need to start washing your hair with moisturizing shampoos like creme of nature or pantene relaxed and natural breakage defense(do this once a week).
2. Then you need to deep condition t right after you wash your hair with a deep conditioning cream like Lustrasilk deep conditioning cream(do this once a week). First you put the cream on, then cover your hair with a plastic cap and sit underneath a hair dryer (if you have one) or blow dry your hair with a hand held dryer for 15 minutes then wash it out.
3. Next you're going to need a good moisturizing conditioner like mane %26amp; tail moisturizing conditioner (do this once a week).
4. after you wash, deep condition, and condition your hair do a hot oil treatment with africa's best hair oil. First you have to warm the oil for 10 seconds (let it cool) then apply it to your hair when it's still warm. Next wrap a warm towel straight out of the dryer around your head and leave it on for 15 minutes (do not wash it out).
5. Moisturize your hair daily with a hair lotion like Motion's moisturizing hair lotion.
6. keep heat off of your hair as much as you can but if you need to use heat use heat protectant spray like Tresseme heat protectant spray.
7. Please do not use a hot comb on your hair because it's relaxed and it will break off if you do.
Hope this helped!!!
I use relaxers and I must say it works very well for me. I've found that the more you use it the better it works. Meaning the results improve.
I've asked my hair cutter that question, and she said to condition it. I told her I wanted my hair more soft-like and natural. She told me to use mayonnaise conditioner. I haven't used it yet, but I've heard very good reviews about it and my aunt's used to use it.
You should wait at least two days. I hate waiting this long because my hair looks like a dead tree when I put the relaxer in. Like, it's very stiff and blah. So I typically get it done on Friday so by time I have to go to school on Monday, I can wash it out on Sunday. But no doubt, it looks awesome after I wash it out.
My hair cutter even told me a relaxer doesn't do that much damage. If you can properly take care of your hair, it should be totally natural looking. Which I agree 100%.
I used to go to a salon to get it done, but then my mom and I decided to just buy Dr.Miracle at CVS. (Dr.Miracle is a brand of relaxer)
[image of Dr.Miracle Relaxer: http://us.st11.yimg.com/us.st.yimg.com/I/texasbeautysupplycom_1995_28999488]
My mom started doing my hair (it's short, but I don't think it matters) and I must say, I just rely on her to do it. It's a very easy process and much cheaper than going to a salon. Only do it if you're comfortable though.
That's pretty much all you need to know about relaxers. (As far as I'm concerned)
Good luck! :D
If you believe that getting a relaxer will make it easier to take care of your hair you are dead wrong. If anything, you will need to take care of your hair even more because it is much easier for your hair to break off and become damaged. If you have never gotten a relaxer before I would let the salon do it because if you mess up somehow your hair could be in jeopordy. I've seen really bad cases before when people left the relaxer in too long and they lost all of their hair. And if you do get a relaxer I would start saving up money every week so you can keep going back because the best way to keep your hair healthy is to go to a salon and let them take care of it every week. And it also depends on each beauty salon on how much it costs to get a relaxer. For me its 60 dollars but it could more or less some place else.
Good luck with getting a relaxer, but I would really warn against it. I use to have a relaxer, but it gave me horrible split ends. I havent used a relaxer in over 5 years. All I do is press it out and its healthy.dermalogica

I've been getting relaxers done to my hair for a very long time, since I was a little girl. I'm pretty sure our hair types are different, but I'll tell you as much as I can remember/know about relaxers:
You'll have to get a relaxer that's specifically fr your type of hair: Coarse, thick, thin, or whatever. Usually it'll say it on the box what type it's for or it'll have different levels on it like High or Medium.
When you're actually applying the relaxer to your hair, just dot he roots and after you do the roots of your hair massage it so it goes in nicely. And don't leave it on for too long! Once it starts to burn you might wanna wash it out but usually 15 minutes is fine.
The shampoos and such that already come with the relaxers... you don't really have to use all of them. Just the one shampoo will do and the leave in conditioner I usually just skip over that and use my regular shampoo and conditioner (Pantene).
By the end of this process your hair should be wonderfully straight, so just blow dry it~ my relaxers last a very long time, until my hair starts to show new growth actually and then I have to do it again, but I usually get a relaxer every 2-3 months. Once you get a relaxer, it usually sticks and you can wash it within a week and it should stay straight, least it does for me.
The downfall of a relaxer is all the chemicals in it: unfortunately, it does break your hair a bit, but you can always cut your ends every few weeks (you're supposed to anyways~!). However there are new relaxers coming out that are completely natural and have no chemicals in them whatsoever and they'll allow your hair to stay as straight as possible for up to 3 months. Unfortunately for me I have no idea what this product is called. I failed to ask my hairstylist at the time.
Also, I'm not sure what salons do relaxers. I've had my family members do it for me since I was a little girl :/
Anyhow, I hope I helped you even a little bit~!I need info about hair relaxers!?
actually many salons dont do it!
many places have been sued because of the damage it did to so many clients such as hair loss and burnng to the scalp!:(
...i personally know someone that has a beauty school license

What's the best hair straightner and hair relaxer for frizzy, thick curly hair?
Where can I get it, how much does it cost and is it good? What's the best hair straightner and hair relaxer for frizzy, thick curly hair?
Try Glatt. It's wonderful. I'm not sure about the price, though. What's the best hair straightner and hair relaxer for frizzy, thick curly hair?
get a WIDE chi you can get it at ulta it CAN be up to 200 dollars
You sound like you need super strength because you have thick hair.
You also sound however like you are new to relaxing your hair.
You need not just consider your hair texture but must also think about your scalp.
Hair straighteners can ofter burn your scalp and not only damage but cause your hair to fall out.
If you can afford it go to a salon or a friend on your family who you trust to apply it for you.
If you cannot afford it maybe you can raise money by babysitting or volunteering to help clean the local salon in exchange for getting your hair done.
Hair relaxing can give great results, they can also be harmful and devastating if done incorrectly.
In all honesty, avacado oil. Fruit and vegetable oils fuse to the hair shafts and weigh them down, pulling the curls out naturally without destroying the hair with chemicals. I found this out on accident when I used a shampoo that contained avacado oil. I was devastated when I notice my curls were GONE! My emergency trip to the salon taught me that fruit and vegetable oils can uncurl hair like a straightener without a second thought.
Apparently ALL fruit and veggie oils have this property but avacado seems to be the best at it. Garnier Fructis products contain avacado oil but it can also be purchased (link below).
On the chemical side, KMS Flat Out Hot Pressed Spray works wonders on curly hair when used in conjunction with a straightening iron. For more permanent results I guess you'd have to get your hair chemically straightened, something I do not have experience with.
Good luck!

Allergic breakouts from hair relaxers/conditioners?
Every time I go to my salon to get my hair relaxed and conditioned, my skin breaks out into little bumps on my arms. Usually I scratch them for a day, they go away, I don't think about it until the next time my hair gets done. Well this time, I don't know what was done different, but the itching is downright unbearable. I started with big red bumps on my arms, that spread to my hips, back, feet, and slowly to my face. Could it be the shampoo/conditioner? The relaxer? Should I see a doctor? After showering, the redness went away some, but the itch and the bumps are still there. Help, please!Allergic breakouts from hair relaxers/conditioners?
ok just don't get your hair done with the same stuff. tell the salon worker that you are allergic to something in the conditioner and ask if she has a different kind or maybe bring your own conditioner to use. it has happened to me at home. i am allergic to something that they put in lemon flavored soap.

Do african american hair relaxers work for latinas?
I'm a latina with thick hair curly/frizzy. When my hair is blow dryed out it looks like caucasian hair when it's long. Now that it is short like Victoria Beckham I flat iron it and it gets thicker and frizzy towards the end of the day or if it's hot out 5 minutes of being outside it wants to get wavey and poof out like Dora the explorer. I bought a African American Hair relaxer (Dark and Lovley for kids/Fine hair) before I go ahead and do this does anyone know if this will work or make it worse.
I know Hispanics have ethnic hair as well and thought this should work.Do african american hair relaxers work for latinas?
uhm I think so. I'm Hispanic too and I got that crazy dominican/rican hair. When I didn't get it relaxed at a salon I would use the Olive oil relaxer and the just for me one and i'd get like...... asain hair lmao. So yeah it should work. Make sure you deep condition your hair though too because it will get dry
good luckDo african american hair relaxers work for latinas?
they work for anyone with curly frizzy type hair just because a black woman is one the cover doesn't mean it just for black people i mean i use herbal essences hello hydration and their adverts have white women
now if a woman with Straight hair uses it her hair will damage and that's what happened to a white girl i knew lol
I don't use dark and lovely the people i know who use it are all south asian lol and there is no such thing as ';ethnic hair'; people just use that as a euphemism for ';Our hair hair has a different texture than you coloured people so obviously the stuff that works for us won't work for you'; LMAO
just make sure it's a no lye relaxer and please follow the instructions

Does anyone know of a good and healthy hair relaxer for woman of color?
Biolage is amazingDoes anyone know of a good and healthy hair relaxer for woman of color?
affirm fiberguard is suppose to be good, but you have to buy the whole system to get the full effect. I prefer Mizani, and some think Phytospecific is a healthy system, but its pricey $60 for one kit and at the salon they'll charge $80+ for that brand.dermalogica

Would a hair relaxer get rid of curls on guys?
there are curls at the end of my hair on the sides, and they look like crap. My hair goes down to the end of my earsWould a hair relaxer get rid of curls on guys?
Yes it would, but , you would have to make sure that each time you do your roots you do not over lap the product, because it will cause your hair to break. relaxers are very strong chemicals used on the hairWould a hair relaxer get rid of curls on guys?
the best thing you could do is straighten your hair.
and yes i'm being serious.
it's that or cut it your choice.
Maybe you just need a haircut.

Question about hair relaxers?
heres what my hair looks like:

http://s839.photobucket.com/albums/zz312鈥?/a>
so i think that buying a hair relaxing kit would be something new and different for my hair but i have a few qs:
1. will i love all most or some of my curl? cuz i like my curl but i also want my hair to be silky
2. is it bad for your hair?
3. which ones would work best for my hair?
4. anything else i should know??
kk thanks soooo much!!Question about hair relaxers?
Umm, do not buy a relaxer kit because they're just like FAKE.
~like the plastic nails
Relaxer is a chemical, so it would thin your hair and it'll burrrrn.
To get silky hair, just use a silker.
:D

How do hair relaxers work and what will the results look like?
i'm a guy with pretty long and curly hair. i always am trying to get it straight, but its never permanent and is annoying to do. i was wondering 1) is it possible to get my hair relaxed (it goes down to about my eyes when its straight). 2) what will it look like? Will it be like dead/pin straight? cause i don't want it dead straight.. just bascally striaght but looking natural or a white guy haha. 3) how long will it last for if i get it done??
Thanks. How do hair relaxers work and what will the results look like?
If you do decide to get it done, you should let a professional do it. You may run the risk of damaging your hair- breakage, falling out.
It will straighten your hair. If it is done right, it should be straight without being pin straight. The rule is, it is not supposed to be done that straight. It is permanent. It will grow out. You can get it touched up. Good luck.dermalogica

Question about hair relaxers?
Ok, so 2 days ago I got a hair relaxer. It seemed like a good one, because it had no lye and it had olive oil in it. It was my first time using a hair relaxer, and I did it because my hair was curly and hard to manage, but it is not coarse. I have no idea when I can wash it, because my black friend, who has had relaxers many times, tells me that I should only do it once every 2 weeks. But I don't have african-american type of hair, so I don't know if it is different for me... And also, I don't think I will ever use a relaxer again because I'm trying to keep my hair healthy. So if I use a relaxer once and then I never do it again, then will that make my hair fall off or break off or whatever?
And even though I relaxed it, will it be okay if I use my hair straightening iron or will that cause my hair to come out?
So, if you didn't feel like reading that, here are the 3 questions I have:
1) When can I wash my hair after putting a relaxer in it?
2) What will happen if I use a relaxer once and then decide not to use it ever again?
3) Is it safe to use a hair straightening iron after a relaxer or will it casuse a lot of damage?
Please answer, I already cut my hair kind of short, and I don't want to have to do it again because of me not being informed! I want my hair to grow long and be healthy!
Please help!
:]Question about hair relaxers?
To clear this up I am African American and i get my hair relaxed but that shouldnt matter because relaxed hair is relaxed hair
1. You should wash your at least week later of 3 days after your relaxer because the chemicals are still like setting in your hair and washing them out would do no good.
2.If you don't use a relaxer again your hair is more prone to breakage thats why most females who get them continue to get a relaxer when their hair has new growth. If you dont i suggest you go for a trim more frequently so the weight of your natural hair and relaxed hair isnt conflicting too much
3.Well i straighten my hair after i wash it but i always put in a protectant serum for example proclaim. But if you straighten your hair the day it was relaxed thats not to smart and could lead to more damageQuestion about hair relaxers?
1) yes but i would wait a day or two or three
2)nothing your hair would just go back normally whn the relaxer wears off
3)hair straightners already cause hair damage so no it wont cause anymore, if anything it should help. i would put something in your hair to help it thoughh just in case
Your friend is right. Once every two weeks is perfect. I get mine done once every two weeks 2. Ummm if you perm it once and dont decide to do it again then that might be a problem for some people because some of them need to keep getting it so that they're hair wont fall out or break. But in your case I dont think it won't be bad b/c you dont have African - American Hair!
Yes it is safe to use a hair straightening hair becasue I do it all the time. Make sure that you use a heat protectant first!!!

Differences between hair relaxers/chem straighteners for white and black people?
okay im a white kid, but ever since i was little ive had super crazy afro curly hair. if i want it to look decently flat, it takes three and a half hours of running over it with a flat iron. to change this ive been using hair relaxers.
well, i bought another relaxer to put in my hair. my mom freaked out saying i bought a relaxer for a black person and if i used it my hair would fall out. i dont really believe her, but i really dont want to go bald, so i thought i would ask if thats really true. are there relaxers specifically for blacks that whites cant use? she really seems to think so.Differences between hair relaxers/chem straighteners for white and black people?
I teach Cosmetology so hopefully I can help answer your question. Basically hair is hair and we treat the form so a product that is for extremly curly hair can be used on any enthenticity. A simple answer would be yes, you can use the product you have chosen but I must tell you that it should only be used by a professional. Anyone (whether black or white) can have extreme breakage and damage to the scalp using any type of relaxer product. It is not so much the product that can give you the problem but how it is used, where it is placed, how long it is left on, ect. People aren't built to be able to apply the product properly on themselves! Please consider asking your Mom to take you to a trained professional who can relax your hair successfully and hopefully without the hair breakage and scalp burning that can happen so easily when you try to do such a difficult job yourself. Even if you are successful with the first attempt you will more than likely have problems in successive treatments. A trained professional can teach you much about relaxed hair and taking care of relaxed hair. Best of luck and I will say a little prayer that you decide to visit a professional.Differences between hair relaxers/chem straighteners for white and black people?
Since you bought the 'no lye', 'sensitive scalp' formula, it should not be a problem as long as you follow the instructions properly. Hair only falls out when products are used in a manner in which they weren't intended.
I, on the other hand, no longer use relaxers and I am a black woman. Many women are going back to their natural hair which is healthier in the long run. Embrace your curls!

Will professional hair relaxers work?
Ever since I was a little I have had thin but very frizzy, curly, and wavy hair. So I always just throw it up in a pony tail or bun to keep it out of my face. I literally wear it up every day because it doesn't look good down. I have tried frizz ease and other products to control it, but no matter what I do it doesn't look good. Even when I straighten it, it doesn't stay that way for long. I've never done anything to my hair chemically but it is still unhealthy with split ends. Will it work to get m hair relaxed by a professional? Will professional hair relaxers work?
itll work, but id reccomend using a deep conditioner 1st.
mine? http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?鈥?/a>Will professional hair relaxers work?
Going to a pro will definitely benefit you because you seem to have no clue what to do. Not being mean, you're just at a quandry cause you can't wash n' wear like it seems so many other girls can do. But don't be fooled, they probably have an arsenal of products they use. What the stylist will do is evaluate your hair, help you find the right styling products (usually what they sell in the store, not bad but if money is an issue ask them about cheaper alternatives), and show you how to use, apply, and style your hair.
Breakage, has to be cut away no questions. You're getting the split ends because your hair is dry, which is typical of curlier hair so you need a deep conditioner weekly. That means at least 10 minutes, preferably with a plastic cap %26amp; heat. If you wash your hair daily, stick with moisturizing shampoos/conds, use a 2 in 1 if possible. You also need a moisturizer once your hair is dry to leave in, something creamy and light so as not to weigh your thin hair down, and concentrate applying it along the hair ends and shaft, but NOT the roots so your hair keeps a fuller look. Also look at purchasing a satin bonnet to sleep in, keeps hair from drying out.

Children's hair relaxers?
I want to know if they are actual more gentle than adult ones or if they are the same thing in a smaller cup?
I'm using IC Fantasia hair serum for heat protecting and straightening and I like it gets my hair pretty straight except it doesn't stay straight during the day it gets frizzy.
I'm mulatto so I have in between hair curly hair. Like S or corkscrew curls not kinky curls. The serum works about 80% well but I don't know of any other product that will fill in the last bit of effort so I thought MAYBE if I use a very light children's relaxer that it would help.
I didn't want to use an adult's relaxer because it's just way too much chemical. I don't need that much strength if anyone knows what I mean. I don't want to subject my hair to the unnecessary damage anymore. So will this work? If not any other product suggestions that will go will if the IC Fantasia stuff?Children's hair relaxers?
Just buy a texturizer. It's a milder relaxer that's left on your hair for a shorter amount of time so it doesn't completely straighten it. Since it is a relaxer it can still straighten your hair if left on too long.Children's hair relaxers?
child relaxers are the same as adult, thats why you never see pcj in a salon. Its mental marketing.
Try a brand called mixed chicks, several curly haired starlets like Tracee Ross and Ciara swear by it to define curls. For straightening, you might need to use a flat iron comb to separate each hair as you flat iron, and a silicone serum when you're done to protect from frizz, if you are not ready for the relaxer commitment. Also, Brazilian Keratin is expensive, but keeps frizz at bay on curly or straight hair. It is a non permanent option.

Do hair relaxers work?
so i have mega curly hair. my curls are very tight. and i also have a lot of hair. i feel like i am always having to put my hair up in a bun because i hate how big my hair gets. It feels like im walking around with an afro on my head ( and it looks like it too)! I am trying to grow my hair out because it only comes to my shoulders. But for some reason my hair just doesnt want to grow.
So i was thinking about getting my hair permanently straightened. I know that this will not come anywhere near straightening my hair (my mom has had it done twice and it didnt work) but if it would at least relax my curls so that it is more of a wave i would love that! I have also heard about curl relaxers. Do these really work? And i would be getting my hair thinned as well. I am hoping that this will take out the volume.
so i guess what i am asking is what do you think about permanently straightening curly hair, relaxing curly hair and thinning curly hair. I am hoping that somebody can relate to this!!
THANK YOU ANYONE WHO CAN HELP!!!Do hair relaxers work?
I can relate to this I hae mega curly hair but it's already thin, I use a flat iron everyday to reduce the curliness.
But I'm going to get a Japanese Straightening.
Which is this:

ARE HAIR RELAXERs SAFE?
I'M MIXED RACE AND BOUGHT ONE FOR PEOPLE WITH FINE HAIR.ARE THE BRANDS LIKE SOFTSHEEN CARSON SAFE? I READ ABOUT PERMANANT HAIR LOSS! I HAVE DIED MY HAIR A FEW MONTHS AGO PERMANANTLY THOUGH AND THAT WAS OK.ARE HAIR RELAXERs SAFE?
Chemicals are not safe to put on your head. You can have breakage from the relaxer if you use it after you have dyed your hair. I had highlights in my hair and then I relaxed a couple of months later. My hair broke off in so many different places. I looked uneven. I had to grow my hair out and cut out the relaxer.
If you are bi-racial why not embrace the curls you already have. You might want to consider that. Some wonderful websites for ethnic hair is forum.blackhairmedia.com, naturallycurly.com, and happycurls.com. These websites have a lot of information on ethnic hair. Even on relaxers if you decide to do so. Also a lot of information on how to take care of your hair post relaxer. Check them out and see if they help you. Good LuckARE HAIR RELAXERs SAFE?
Yes relaxers are safe if your follow the instructions. Also you need to keep your hair moisturized after you added the relaxer. You will need a hair oil/hair dressing for your scalp and hair or use a oil sheen spray.
Soft Sheen relaxers are not very good. I preferred Revlon Realistic or Hawaiian Silky or Dr. Miralces all three come in a mild formula.
I do not have to heated hair straighteners on my hair. Dr. Miracles leaves your hair really straight.
You probably will not have to straightened your hair after using Soft Sheen since your of a mixed race. To avoid hair loss always wrap up your hair at night with a silk or satin scarf. Add a hair dressing to your scalp and hair. Limit your use of heated hair appliance. Do not use rubber bands on your hair. Do not use hair sprays or gels on your hair.
Personally i do not believe that relaxers are safe. If a chemical that you put on your hair to alternate the texture of it. It can cause hair loss, and chemical burns. the hair will still stay somewhat straight when you wash it and people still use curling irons and flat irons to make it even more straight. Never color and relax your hair in the same day. Wait at least a week or two before the do the other.
A lot of woman are starting to wear their hair natural because of the harm that relaxers cause to their hair. I suggest that if you do put a relaxer in that you have a professional do it.
Hair relaxers are safe as long as they are applied or used by professionals. I can't tell you the amount of people I know who tried to do it at home and ended up with severe breakage.
If I were you I would take all these questions to a reputable salon.
The natural curls will go away...you should use a mild texturizer.
The texturizer which I alo have; my hair gets curly when I wash it, but if I blow dry it it goes bone straight.
If you just want straight the you can use the maxiglide .its a striaghten iron....
Relaxer are not safe for mixed hair..
color and relaxer is a combination that will make your hair fall out...and cause damage....
Go to a domincan hair salon....or ask other mixed ladies where they get their hair done. don't be shy...
Good Luck
Let me know how it goes....
Girl, you really need to go to a salon with either domincan or purtorician. I say this because in their culture they have many different textures of hair and know how to deal with mixed, to kinky or straight. To get the look you want and have healthy hair.
All hair is different and require different care...
When your roots grow out with any chemical you need a touch up of the 1st relaxer/texturier you used. (at the roots of new growth)
If not your hair will begin to fall out...or break...
You can grow your natural hair out, but it will be very damaged...
Please see a professional....
Relaxers are good to some extent. True they do straighten your hair but you can't do it frequently b/c it will cause hair breakage. Since you have fine hair maybe every 6 weeks. Softsheen carson and Dark %26amp; Lovely are okay, make sure you use only the mild or regular since you hair fine hair!
You have to keep you hair moisturized also. Relaxers depending on the company, may dry out your hair so stay away from a lot of heat and moisturize and condition your hair every week to keep it healthy.
When you first get your relaxer make sure each subsequent relaxer is only applied to your new growth. Once you get the chemical in you have to keep it maintained
Make sure you relax your hair in the time allotted according to your hair type. The sodium hydroxide will burn your scalp if it is left in too long. You need nuetralizing shampoo to balance the ph and you need a conditioning shampoo to detangled and condition.
Overall, you will not lose any hair if you be cautious about how you treat your hair. Relaxers can be helpful but also harmful if you don't keep the texture maintained.
Good Luck!
hair relaxers are safe, but you have to know what you are doing. just read the instructions before you actually use it. use a no lye relaxer, that says gentle or medium, dont use super or extra until you find out how your hair will take it. the only way you can lose your hair is if you over process it. dont relax your hair more than once a month depending on thickness. it will last thru washing and curling. i usually relax my hair say first of the month, then when i use a color i usually do that 2 weeks later if my roots are showing. definitely dont color and relax your hair within 2 wks of each other. use gloves, some relaxers come with gloves. i use precise or optimum relaxer. and you must use a neutralizing shampoo when you rinse after relaxing. this allows all the chemicals to neutralize from your hair. if you need any other help email me or see a beautician in your area
Don't use dark and lovely it make you feel the burn intense.Use the beautiful beginnings for kids(is more safe ) or organic root stimulator olive oil (you don't feel the burn too much.I'll advice you to keep it natural cause the relaxed hair stay straight always while natural can be curly/straight (with flat irons) and more many people relax their hair and later want their natural hair back ,the was God created it.If u still want to relax it make sure you don't over process ur hair and make sure also to read the instructions carefully .For ur 1st relaxing let aprofesinal do it for you .also read this:

Also if you relax ur hair will be straight no matter what and you have to do touch up every 6-8 week according to how fast ur hair grow, make sure to study the relaxing process by finding more info's from the internet before going further and make sure you know how to maintain it healthy
Good luck!
YES THERE SAFE.AS LONG AS YOUR HAIR IS IN GOOD CONDITION.YOUR ROOTS WILL GROW BACK CURLY AS THE RELAXER ONLY RELAXES THE EXSITING HAIR.RELAXERS ALSO CAN SLITLY STRIP COLOUR FROM THE HAIR(FADE IT SLITLY)THATS IF YOU HAVE ANY COLOUR ON IT.PERSONLY I WOULD HAVE IT DONE IN A SALON.BECAUSE THEY WILL DO A INCOMPATABILTLY TEST.(A TEST TO MAKE SURE THAT YOUR HAIR DOESNT REACT WITH THE RELAXER).YOU SEE HOME KIT RELAXERS CAN BE UNSAFE,BECAUSE YOU JUST DONT KNOW WHETHER YOUR HAIR WILL REACT TO IT.lotion cream

The Truth About Hair Relaxers
http://www.skinbiology.com/truthabouthai鈥?/a>
Also if you relax ur hair will be straight no matter what and you have to do touch up every 6-8 week according to how fast ur hair grow, make sure to study the relaxing process by finding more info's from the internet before going further and make sure you know how to maintain it healthy
Good luck!
YES THERE SAFE.AS LONG AS YOUR HAIR IS IN GOOD CONDITION.YOUR ROOTS WILL GROW BACK CURLY AS THE RELAXER ONLY RELAXES THE EXSITING HAIR.RELAXERS ALSO CAN SLITLY STRIP COLOUR FROM THE HAIR(FADE IT SLITLY)THATS IF YOU HAVE ANY COLOUR ON IT.PERSONLY I WOULD HAVE IT DONE IN A SALON.BECAUSE THEY WILL DO A INCOMPATABILTLY TEST.(A TEST TO MAKE SURE THAT YOUR HAIR DOESNT REACT WITH THE RELAXER).YOU SEE HOME KIT RELAXERS CAN BE UNSAFE,BECAUSE YOU JUST DONT KNOW WHETHER YOUR HAIR WILL REACT TO IT.
HELP:Can you use hair relaxers for afro-Caribbean hair on caucasian hair which is VERY curly?
I got the dark and lovely beautiful beginnings KIDS hair relaxer, on the side of the box it says: USE ONLY ON TIGHTLY CURLED AFRICAN OR AFRO-CARIBBEAN HAIRTYPE, does that mean that only african people can use it on their hair? Or does ';afro-carribbean HAIRTYPE'; mean that it can be used on hair that is like an africans? Im really confused.
My hair is VERY tightly curled, and thick. Will it make my hair fall out or something? HELPHELP:Can you use hair relaxers for afro-Caribbean hair on caucasian hair which is VERY curly?
This is a very interesting question. I suggest you try some on a tiny bit of your hair first and see if it agrees with you. Everybody's hair is different...
Good Luck!HELP:Can you use hair relaxers for afro-Caribbean hair on caucasian hair which is VERY curly?
You can use a black relaxer on Caucasian hair it is just specialised for black hair types .I think it would be fine if you use the relaxer as the category african- caribbean hair type is very broad. see link:
http://www.growafrohairlong.com/hairtype鈥?/a>
I dont understand the emphasis on tightly coiled as I am 1/2 caribbean but my hair is wavy so does this still mean I can use it? I dont think it means only africans can use it but I think it is at a very high strength.
If your hair is in the (2) category I don't think it is suitable for your hair type.
I think you should check on their website and query your question but Iam sure if you use it , it will be fine on your hair. But please just check to be sure :D

Thio hair relaxers?
Can anyone recomend a good brand for thio based hair relaxers available at UK?Thio hair relaxers?
Sorry just cant help myself, I Cant recommend a relaxer, but who ever does you hair, you need to prep your hair for this process, so 5-7 days before you relax, this will help improve condition of your hair and strengthen it, and help prevent damage done by the relaxer.
This is what you should do 5-7 days before you or your hairdresser relax your hair.
Pre condition your dry hair with a Moisturizing Conditioner, then wrap in a hot towel, leave for 25 minutes. rinse out well, then lightly detangle from the ends to the roots. always apply conditioner to dry hair before you shampoo, this protects and moisturises hair before you shampoo.
Then use a clarifying shampoo, Keracare 1st lather, or any V05, this is used to remove all the product build up, so that the relaxer hasnt got to work so hard. Rinse well, hair will feel dry, so use a moisturizing shampoo afterwards.
You then use a moisturizing shampoo, something thats sulphate free, like Creme of Nature( red or green lablel) or alternative. apply to the roots and scalp only, let the run off from the shampoo, do the rest of your hair. Rinse well, pat dry donot rub hair dry.
Next Use a light protein treatment like Aphogee 2 minutes Reconstructor, or Affirm 5 in 1 Reconstructor, this is used to strengthen the hair and repair it for the chemical process.. wrap hair in a hot towel again accordinging to instructions. Rinse well, pat hair dry.
Then use your moisturizing conditioner, plus add one of these natural oils, coconut, jojoba, sweet almond, extra virgin olive which you will warm and add to the deep conditioner, wrap in a hot towel and plastic bag. and leave for atleast an hour. rinse well and then detangle lightly, let your hair air dry abit, before you use any heat styling, stuff.
Lightly moisturize your hair every few days, and oil your scalp lightly with one of the natural oils.dont scatch scalp or pull hair too much for atleast a week before
You can do everything but the protein treatment and the clarifying weekly, the protein treatment should be used again 1 week after you relax, then every 4-6 weeks. this helps rebuild the strength in your hair as relaxing weaking it.
Clarifying you should do, every 6-8 weeks for product build up, or 1 week before you relax.
hope this helps even though its not what you askedThio hair relaxers?
you should let a pro do you hair i did a home relaxer it fried my hair i was luck my hair did not fall out

Hair Relaxers/Straighteners?
I have short, thick curly hair, but not overly kinky or frizzy; I just got a really cute cropped cut, and would love a sleek, straight style to grow on; what are the pros/cons of Hair relaxers/straighteners?--I'm a bit scared to try it, but love the look.Hair Relaxers/Straighteners?
I have had relaxed hair for years, off and on. I love having straight hair because I can attempt a wider range of styles. Depending on your hair type, I'd recommend a standard no-lye relaxer, just to test the waters with.
One thing about relaxers though, they change the texture of your hair PERMANENTLY, so don't expect to just wash it out after 10 washes or so. Certain parts of your hair will be bone straight; other parts will be frizzy and wild. If this seems a bit extreme, try a texturizer instead ;) There are also Gel Relaxers on the market that claim to relax the curl pattern gently, letting you decide what look you want by the amount of combing-through you do, and the length of time it stays on. That may be something to look into as well.
As for a standard relaxer, it can be harsh. It smells like rotten poop when it's on your head, and if your scalp is sensitive you will get a chemical burn. Don't scratch your scalp or comb/brush your scalp a few days before you apply it. I'm an old pro, so I don't really worry about these things, but for a newbie, make sure you follow the instructions to the T, especially the part about the spot test.
For heat straightening, I recommend the Maxiglide flat iron. It's basically a steam iron for your hair. I've been using mine for years now. Good luck, whatever you decide!Hair Relaxers/Straighteners?
a good straightener is CHI. they have a whole line of hair products. They're the best!
Embrase your curls!!! People with straight hair are jealous of us curly girls. We can go any style and any time and they CANT without a lot of time and it falls out anyway. Go to this site. It is the curly girl bible of sites.

If you get a relaxer it will completely straighten your hair. A flat iron will help you straighten it temporarily. If you want to keep your curly hair, a straightener is not the best for your hair. they both can be drying..

Hair relaxers, streightening perms,...etc?
OK, so two days ago I got my hair cut, and the lady really butchered it. she put a bunch of layers in my hair, and she razered it. That was a terrible thing to do to my hair because it is coarse, wavy, and thick. so now when it dries from the shower it just frizzes out. I always put moose in my hair to keep it nice right after the shower, but it does nothing since my haircut. When I tried to straighten it, it just poofed out like a triangle. I am so fed up with it i want it relaxed, or straightened some how. Will it work with all my choppy frizzy layers and hair type though? thanksHair relaxers, streightening perms,...etc?
Honestly I wouldn't do a straightning perm especially because right now you're going through a ';hair disaster';
You want your hair to grow out, but if you get the perm it's just going to fry your hair and damage it like crazy!
Maybe you should get a better hair straightner?
because a good straightner wouldn't make your hair all poofy/frizzy.
I use a GHD, it has amazing reviews (check it out on youtube) and it works great!
Don't worry your hair will grow out eventually, but just stay away from perms!
Oh also, I forgot to mention, when you get a straightning perm, the hair that grows out is your NATURAL hair which means that it's going to be poofy/frizzy when its growing out, so you're going to have to straighten it anyways!

Hair relaxers like salon ones?
How can i make an at home relaxer out of the box have an affect like the relaxers you get at the salon? I have thick curly hair that gets puffy really quick when i just straighten it with no relaxer. Im African American and Caucasion..so you can get an idea of what my hair type is.[KIND OF KINKY HAIR] So i the ';Q'; is, what can i do to make an at home relaxer come out just like at the salon? What do they do..like step by step? Do they use a hot iron or whatver? THnx in advance!!Hair relaxers like salon ones?
Relaxers are pretty much all the same, there might be a couple of chemical components, and some peoples hair type might work better with one brand then another, but its generally all the same. My cousin was so bold a couple of weeks ago to take her box relaxer to her stylist. With gas sky high, a toddler, and another baby on the way she's had to cut out her bi/tri-weekly appts. She bought a $6-7 perm to save money and was gonna put it in herself, but after 10-15yrs of salon hair, she packed up the kit and took it to her stylist who applied it and only charged her for the style about $30 as oppose to $45-50. I don't advise anyone else to try that or prepare to be cursed out, but the point is relaxers are pretty much the same. So its mainly about skill and technique. Make sure its mixed thoroughly, you apply it properly with a rat tail comb or application brush, and give it enuff time to process your hair. stylists are/should be careful not to overlap perm on already permed hair. Neutralize thoroughly and deep condition. BTW you can order some professional perms online.
Its some of the post relaxer products that you want to pay attention to - conditioners and styling products, professional grade some of those do work better than drug store brands. So if you can't invest in the professional perm, buy the styling products to use at home.Hair relaxers like salon ones?
DO NOT TRY TO MAKE YOUR OWN RELAXER!!!! no good will come from it... i have thick curly hair too. to soften it, believe it or not, baby lotion works great! and instead of a relaxer, try a texturizer! Sally's Beauty Supply is an affordable place to get it all!
!!!GOOD LUCK!!!
and God bless

Hair relaxers...how long should i wait to do it again?
ok so i've heard white people shouldn't use hair relaxers, but i did and it didn't damage my hair so i was wondering when i should do it again. i used a kid brand because that's what a lady working on the salon said i should do, but my hair didn't turn out as straight as i would like it, so i was thinking of doing it again and maybe this time with an adult hair relaxer. anyone know when i should do it again? do people usually wait months or is it safe for me to use an adult one soon since the kid one didn't give me the results i was looking for? i mean it did work, but it mostly just keeps my hair from frizzing and only straightened it slightly.Hair relaxers...how long should i wait to do it again?
Go to your hairdresser as they know what they are doing but don't relax your hair too much as you may become obsessed and might even damage your hair. If you relax your hair too much your hair might fall and and become very thin. Relax your hair when you see the relaxer has disappeared from your hair and it is back to normal. Another thing is that i am going to tell you again. Don't overload your hair with relaxers its chemicals.lotion cream

If hair relaxers aren't a form of self hate, then why do ppl discourage from wearing natural afro hair?
most AA girls that go natural find that ppl in their community discourage it, they say little snide comments about your hair, make fun of it etc.
if perms are all about ';manageable hair'; then why the negative attitude towards natural afro hair?
in my opinion, it is ok to wear your hair straight sometimes, but to PERMANENTLY change the way god made you is sad. perms ruin hair, why not flat iron your hair SOMETIMESIf hair relaxers aren't a form of self hate, then why do ppl discourage from wearing natural afro hair?
I don't see what the big deal is with hair!
If someone whats straight hair, let them
if someone whats afro hair, let them
jeez hair is DEAD strands out of a live scalp! If hair relaxers aren't a form of self hate, then why do ppl discourage from wearing natural afro hair?
I don't know but in the mid 1970's,I knew some black girls that could rock an afro.I liked it then and I still do.
I am white.
IMO it is not a form of self hatred it is a form of self expression!
Do what you want with your hair!
I have naturally curly hair and try to work with it. I think it is easier for people to just work with their natural style. But some women like to play with their hair and spend a lot of time fighting their natural hair.
Do what you want. You are a female that likes to alter your hair. It doesn't need to be a political statement:-)
its not permenent its just until the hair grows back and natural is unappealing
If somebody wants to keep there hair natural then people should let them do what they want.
I never relax my hair, I always leave my hair natural.
putting relaxers on your hair doesn't make you want to be white..i use relaxers because flat irons don't get the roots of my hair and it's a lot easier to flat iron.
Yeah perms ruin a black woman's hair. Their hair actually GROWS when they leave it natural. Many black women in my family say,';OH afros are out of style, etc.';. But there are other ways you can where your hair when you leave it natural, and afros really dont look bad.
Relaxers ruin hair when you don't know how to use them and when you don't know how to take care of your hair. There are plenty of women with relaxed, waist length hair [obviously they're the ones that know how to take care of their hair]. People discourage natural hair, because they've been taught that natural hair is ';messy, nappy, unprofessional'; etc. It's really not when you know how to take care of it. It all boils down to knowing how to take care of YOUR hair [relaxed or natural].
Getting relaxers for the most part is not self hate. Would flat ironing your hair be self hate? It's not permanent, but your hair's still not in it's natural state either.
Edit---RELAXERS AREN'T EVEN ';PERMENANT';. THEY CAN BE GROWN OUT. SO, WHAT'S YOUR ISSUE?
Seems like when you see people with an afro now on TV or anywhere it's a joke. But Afros can be gorgeous and all that. Back then black pantheres wore afros to show themselves being proud of their black roots.
i like afros on some ppl

Some black people relax their hair and some white people perm their hair. It's all beautiful to me, it shouldn't matter how other people wear their hair, it makes them happy and that's all that should matter.
I know some black people or mixed people including myself who relax their hair because it is really thick. Thick, heavy hair could be VERY unmanageable, some people need relaxers, it ain't always the point of doing it just to fit in.
Btw when I use capitals I ain't doing it to be rude, just add emphasis. :)
And not everyone likes how their natural hair looks. I have thick curls that I HATE, they get frizzy and look ridiculous so I choose to straighten my hair. You gotta remember different people have different styles, some don't like afros.
why i it a form of self hate
mmm think who thinks like this is a racist
and i hated this ep in tyra
i am not black ,and i am not the traditional white
but i can wear my hair whateverway ,,, cover it or show it ,, i will still be one of my people , and i will still love my roots ....
';but to PERMANENTLY change the way god made you is sad';
Didn't you know it's only sad if you're a AA?
Any other race of female can change herself but we ge the most crap for it. And for 1...
My hair doesn't make me an african american. My skin does.
Edit: Of course there is. Our hair is seen as undesirable. I have my hair relaxed and it annoys me so much when people like you judge me and say im sad and not proud of what I am because it is relaxed! It's a style I like and guess what? When I get tired of it I'll cut it off and rock my afro, but untill I'll rock my perm. Don't judge others on what they want to do. It's a hairstyle for god sakes not a way of life. Im still black no matter how you cut it.
I agree. black hair is nice. I love to touch my guy friends nappy little hairs. So beautiful.
My black girl friend always laughs at people with afros if its not a long afro..MEAN black girls can be sometimes.
But I kind of think. In the 70s a lot of white women put curly perms on their head and black ladies wore afros because Poofy hair was in. Nowadays straight hair is in so white girls use flat iron to tame their wavy hair and black girls eitehr straight it or relax it. It's whatever is IN.
But why is it self hate to permanently straighten your hair as some black women do despite the fact that many women of other races get their hair chemically straightened too eg. my friend (who is white) gets her hair chemically straightened using this japanese technique every 4 months
But not self hate to curl you hair (perm) as many white, asian, latino etc women do..?
I think all hairstyles and types can be beautiful whether that be wavy, curly, afros or straight.
In my opinion it's not self hate either way, it's simply that as women, we always want what we don't posess. Therefore those of us with straight hair want curly and those of us with curly hair want straight..
(:

';but to PERMANENTLY change the way god made you is sad';
(:
Does hair relaxer stay working after being in water?
I don't know, I was just wondering. I'm going to buy some hair relaxer, and I'm almost sure about everything. I just wanted to get the facts.Does hair relaxer stay working after being in water?
yes...hair relaxer doesn't change until it grows out basically. Your roots will start to go back curly within a couple of weeks...that's why you hav to get it re-done approx every six weeks. But after you wash your hair...or it gets wet...sometimes it makes your roots a little bit curlier...but that's usually after they have already started to grow back in...bcuz water naturally makes curly hair curl up more.Does hair relaxer stay working after being in water?
yes it does.
the chemical inside the relaxer sticks to your hair
forever the only way to get it out is if your hair grows or you cut it out. but don't get your hair wet within two days of getting a relaxer unless to you want it to fall out.

What is the best hair relaxer for black men to get curls and waves.?
Hey honey you wouldn't get a relaxer. Depends on how long your hair is. But I would suggest that you get a S-curl texturizer kit. They are right beside the box perms in the store. Follow the instructions on the box or have someone do it for you. Then they have the products that you use to maintain your texturizer. And wear a wave cap. What is the best hair relaxer for black men to get curls and waves.?
Hi I am a cosmetologist and i think that you should get a s-curl you can go to your local dollar store and find one called just for men that work very well. Let me know if you have anymore questions. Hope I helped.

What do relaxers move from your hair?
im talking about like curls? wavyness? poofyness xD?What do relaxers move from your hair?
It depends on how strong it is. My hair used to be frizzy, I went to a prestigious salon (My hairdresser has cut Avril Lavigne's hair once! :D) and got a relaxer, and it made my hair frizzier. The thing is, sometimes relaxers work well, sometimes they dont. You have to take a chance. A relaxer just relaxes your curls, so it SHOULD be less frizzy, more like waves or soft curls. What do relaxers move from your hair?
relaxers remove everything meaning u'll just have straight hair. but u with the right stuff u can easily curl it back or wave it back or even make it poofy again.

How long do you have to wait to press hair when you stop using relaxers?
pressing doesn't do anything but straightens your hair. you don't have to wait to press it. pressing is a alternative to using relaxers. just don't press it to much because it can damage your ends of your hair. How long do you have to wait to press hair when you stop using relaxers?
8 weeks, that should give you enough new growth. Only do it every two weeks so you do no damage your hair. How long do you have to wait to press hair when you stop using relaxers?
it depends on how long the relaxer is supposed to work. three months is about the shortest. be careful or your hair will end up even worse so use hair serums to protect it and try some hot oil to make it stronger instead of going at it with an iron too soon.

I used hair relaxer like three monthes ago and i was wondering was will i be able to dye my hair?
my hair is not very dead just alittle, i want to
dye my hair black but im afraid it might fall out.I used hair relaxer like three monthes ago and i was wondering was will i be able to dye my hair?
Girl, your hair will not fall out, lol!
I relax my hair every three to four month and I wait one week later to dye with Bigen! (Ahhhh love it)!
Bigen is harsh chemical-free and its so gentle that you can use it the same day as your relaxer; however, I still wait a week!
If you use any other hair dye you have to wait a least two weeks before you can dye your hair!
I would highly recommend that you use Bigen! It can be found a Walmart. Be sure you do a skin test when trying new hair dyes to see how your skin will react to it!
Also, to keep your healthy deep condition and trim your ends only when needed.
Good luck!

Are relaxers a bad mix with hair dye?
Okay so i have really curly hair because im half black and it brunette but i want to dye it black with maroon highlights and i want to relax it so my hair will be straight will it damage it if i get them both done at the same time? Are relaxers a bad mix with hair dye?
relaxers in the first place are damagingAre relaxers a bad mix with hair dye?
I just saw a case on one of the court shows today about a woman suing her hair stylist for burning her scalp and all her hair out with a relaxer. The real story behind the incident is that the woman suing her hair stylist had actually colored/dyed her hair within the two weeks before her relaxer appointment.
Long story short, if you color your hair, wait a while before you relax it because the coloring process turns the natural tingling of a perm into an intense burning.
I ain't telling no lye, like your relaxer should be...
Your hair will completely fall out if you get them done at the same time. You cannot use these chemicals right on top of each other. However, you may get a relaxer, and then wait two weeks and then get color. I know mixed people that has used relaxers and it caused their hair to break. I think that mixed people have beautiful hair, and adding a relaxer will probably only complicate things and make your hair harder to manage. Once you Start getting relaxers you really have to make sure you maintain it. Sometimes it can be alot of maintenance, depending on how well your hair takes it. Many people that use relaxers end up having to use something in order to repair it. Hair dye even more harsh on the hair, and definitely requires consistent maintenance. These are some things to think about while considering relaxing and coloring your hair. So, if you do decide to do it, make sure that you can find the appropriate products to keep your hair healthy.
Yes, it can definitely damage the hair if they're both done at the same time - all of the chemicals being put in your hair can make you hair fall out or break off easily. Most professional stylists suggest waiting about 2 weeks in between the two to give the relaxer time to set and the chemicals to kind of die down.
Choose one or the other, but don't do both.

Has anyone tried the Japenese hair relaxer?
If you have, does it work and make it silky, smooth, and straight? Also, how much does it cost? Thanks :]Has anyone tried the Japenese hair relaxer?
I tried that!! AHHHHH!!! It works!! I loved it! I had it done five years ago in Guam and it only costs me $300 bucks and it was worth every penny! But eventually it grew out and now that I live in Arizona it costs over a thousand bucks to have it done! I loved it sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much I would pay that much, but I can't afford it! It made my hair silky straight %26amp; it stayed that way even after you shower!Has anyone tried the Japenese hair relaxer?
totally works. very expensive, you pay for the product, plus the time it takes to apply it (about $100/hour) depending on the length of your hair might be 3-4 hundred (plus tip to your stylist). it lasts until your natural curly hair starts to grow in. call a local beauty school in your area to see if they are teaching their students. they might need a hair model and it would be a lot cheaper. an instructor would supervise so there's not a lot of risk. it's a great product, but it is pricey.
lol I never heard of it so I wouldnt reccommend it... what are you trying to do with your hair, Im a stylist so I could probably help you pick a less damaging process. Creativeqt@tmail.comlotion cream

Hair relaxers...Chemical hair straightening (hispanic hair)?
Hello,I am of hispanic descent but i have real puffy, curly, thick, frizzy, unmanagable hair, and I just got a relaxer a week ago (first time), I asked my stylist what the difference was between the mizani relaxer and chi thermal hair straightening was, and she told me there was none and that my hair was gonna be super straight and soft. Well its been a week and from the top of my head to my chin my hair is straight and soft, but from the chin down to my shoulders it is getting curly and super frizzy again, I called the salon to ask her what i can do about it or if i can get some other type of relaxer, etc. but she keeps telling me that she will call me back because she has to ask her manager, n the manager is never there, does anyone know what i can do? is it too soon to get another relaxer? or is there anything else that will help? i look really weird, because my top hair looks good and bottom hair looks a mess (and yes i already tried to flat iron it and it just wont do it) help!!Hair relaxers...Chemical hair straightening (hispanic hair)?

Hair relaxers? I want them for my hair... yeah its pretty bad. Like Poof hair :P. But is it safe, from a salon?
I was just reading stuff up online and it kind of freaked me out :P But I thought it would be fine, I mean its professionals doing it. I saw that it can cause hair loss and stuff.... But my hair is such I mess and I got it straightened with a CHI, and it looked so good. But unfortunately I only have a Revlon, which is not nearly as good. And I cannot get one right now, I would have to wait until X mas. But my hair is like a very thick puff ball :P. And I would prefer it was straight... but I am kind of worried. I mean I have dyed my hair with no problems before... but yeah this kind of worries me... Anyone have no problems with it? And is it perfectly safe? I mean I would have a professional do it...Hair relaxers? I want them for my hair... yeah its pretty bad. Like Poof hair :P. But is it safe, from a salon?
Don't do it! I'm speaking from experience here - professionally done or not, it is terrible for your hair. A pro won't tell you that because he/she wants your money, but it's absolutely true.
Try this out:
1. Wet your hair in cool water. Shampoo, massaging your scalp. Rinse in cool water. Condition, massaging your scalp. Don't use a conditioner that has silicon in it; also, get one with protein in it. (Dumb Blond by Bed Head is great.) Leave the conditioner in for at least 5 minutes or else you are just detangling. Rinse in COLD water, but don't rinse all of the conditioner out. (It's about balance - rinse out too much and it'll be dry, leave in too much and it'll be greasy)
2. Get a hair gel. L'oreal studio line ';Non-Hardening'; gel is great. With hair still soaking wet, apply hair gel. Don't run your fingers through your hair, which separates the strands of hair. Take a towel and squeeze the water out of your hair.
3. Apply a small amount of hair gel into your hair. This is because much of it will come out in the towel, although that is a necessary step. After this, don't touch/brush your hair at all. Let it air dry. No heat products, etc.
Also, get a quality hair cut. There is a huge possibility that you actually have curly hair but don't understand how to take care of it. At any rate, a professional will know how to cut your hair to reduce frizz. Also, don't dye your hair anymore. Frizzy hair = dry/unhealthy hair. Dye is damaging.
Good luck! :)Hair relaxers? I want them for my hair... yeah its pretty bad. Like Poof hair :P. But is it safe, from a salon?

Which hair relaxer straightens hair the best? My relaxers aren't straigtening my hair anymore!?
I am an African-American woman with extremely wavy and coarse hair. I have been getting my hair relaxed ever since I was about 6 or 7. I am now almost 25. I have noticed that when I got pregnant with my first child, my hair stopped taking the relaxer. My hair has never been the same. It hardly gets straight at all. I would like to know, which relaxer is best for straigtening coarse hair ? ( I know that most relaxers have a coarse relaxer, but they don't seem to work) And is it possible for, over time, your hair to become immune to a relaxer?Which hair relaxer straightens hair the best? My relaxers aren't straigtening my hair anymore!?
Try Motions super for course hair, I use it and it lasts for about 3 months. The jar looks like this : http://stores.beautysupply-bedandbath.co鈥?/a>Which hair relaxer straightens hair the best? My relaxers aren't straigtening my hair anymore!?
Dr.Miracle %26amp; Organics.
i think dudley perms are really strong. also i dont know where you live but try going to a dominican hair salon, they tend to have super strength perms. my hair isn't that nappy and the perms those dominican used was so strong my scalp was raw for weeks, same thing with the dudley.
No your hair does not become immuned to the chemical product. your hair is a dead appendage it will respond to the chemical product that you are using. however, you might be wanting it a little more straighter then what you are use to wearing it. Mazini makes a great straightener. Affirm does as well. I would also follow up with a ceramic chi iron. Chi has the new wet to dry that is a great tool to use.

hair is THICK so what do i have to do to it at night, and does my hair have to be relaxed, and also will my curls be shrivled up instead of straight and lanky cause my hair isn't permed/ relaxed?I want to get a straw set, my hair is naturally curly and i dont get relaxers I am African American and my ?
Your hair does not have to be relaxed, however it maybe tough to find a willing stylist if your hair is already thick and curly. Most are converting to using the rubber spiral rods that are not so tedious. At any rate, basically you'll just be organizing your natural curls. With the right styling product, your roller set should be full and fine. Your natural curls might take a couple of washings to return, but you will not permanently alter your hair.lotion cream

Your roots stay straight when you wash it (which is the important part of a relaxer for African American hair), depending on the texture of your hair you would need to get a touch up every 6wks (at the least) that is how long I wait for mine because I have very thick hair. I have a cousin that has fine curly hair and she gets a relaxer only once a year. But all hair curls up when it's wet, but it is more manageable with a relaxer and once you dry it, it's straight not curly it also tangles my hair a lot less then when I haven't had one in awhile.About hair relaxers...?
your hair stays straight for a period of time,if you want your hair to stay straight you have to get them regularly.
not all the time

Are Hair Relaxers dangerous?
I have recently started growing out my perm and I am so happy I did. My hair is returning to the thick, log beautiful hair it was as a child. I did it for safety and health reasons. I had heard about medical students finding a green film under the scalps of the cadavers of black women who had relaxers. I though that was scary. There is never enough research on products that are unique to Blacks and I think as a people we need to become more educated about the things we put in and on our bodies! Therefore, from my own research I found that relaxers are subject to cause alopecia areata and male patterned baldness in 60% of men women and children later on in life who use relaxers on a normal basis say once every four weeks. There is no such thing as a ';better'; perm. I was even appalled to see an organic perm out which to me doesnt make sense considering the fact that a relaxer ';chemically'; changes the structure of our hair! Whats organic about that! Anyways, ';No-lye relaxer'; has been portrayed to the general public as if it is a safer option than Lye (Sodium Hydroxide) and it is no safer in fact. No-Lye relaxers have to use chemicals to straighten hair just as Lye relaxers do. Manufacturers of No-Lye choose to boast No-Lye for marketing purposes. People buy NoLye because ';Surprise!!'; There's No Lye, but what people don't know is that it's just as damaging. Whether the stylist used a Lye or No-Lye (Guanidine Hydroxide) makes no difference unfortunately because both forms of relaxing are equally damaging. Anytime a chemical substance is introduced into the hair, or otherwise, and it subsequently alters the natural condition of the hair, you can best believe that it's damaging. They are also referred to as 'alkaline relaxers' because they contain alkaline caustics, which can cause chemical burns similar to those a person would get if they came in contact with a strong acid. The pH levels are higher than no-lye relaxers. the pH is of 12-14, which is extremely high and these relaxers are formulated with Sodium Hydroxide. The higher the pH the greater risk of damage and hair loss.
They are formulated with calcium hydroxide, guanidine carbonate, and ammonium thioglycolate to make guanidine hydroxide. Some of the ingredients found in Relaxers such as the Sodium Hydroxide are found in drain cleaners, bleach, oven cleaners, toilet cleaners, and other household cleaning supplies. So,basically you can use those relaxers to clean your drains and toilets with! Just imagine those chemicals on your head and knowing your scalp is very porous whatever is on your skin is indeed getting into your bloodstream. And after constantly applying this chemical it is even more dangerous! Even the FDA lists hair relaxers and hair dyes among its top consumer complaint areas. There was this incident I read where thirty years ago a two year old boy got a taste of a caustic cleaning agent SIMILAR to these relaxers and suffered burns in his esophagus and stomach to the point to where he had to get a new esophagus and stomach using a portion of his bowel. Scarring is the ultimate concern of the chemists and doctors testing these products because some of the scarring can only be removed through surgical procedures. The hair is made up of protein and this protein is necessary to promote the growth, strength, and health of the hair. Hair relaxers and perms destroy the protein that makes up the hair by rearranging and breaking the bonds that hold the hair in its natural shape. IMHO,the FDA and Board of Cosmetology have not done enough extensive research to explain and warn of the dangerous effects of hair relaxers over a long period of time due to the capital boom of the cosmetology industry and the high demand dollars that particularly blacks spend on hair care. I hope this info convinces you of how dangerous chemical relaxers and perms are. It convinced me and now Im starting to appreciate my hair texture even more. I am starting to see that my thick, coily, kinky hair is unique and is unlike any other race. Most importantly, my thick, kinky, coily hair was how God created me and I should not treat it as some type of curse by chemically altering it : )Are Hair Relaxers dangerous?
Yes. They are full of dangerous chemicals and your body absorbs them like a sponge.
I'd like to add that there are many dangerous chemicals that are legal. Money talks. And just because something doesn't kill you right away doesn't mean it won't eventually. Especially in combination with other chemicals that are pretty much impossible to avoid. We don't catch cancer and other non viral conditions, we ignorantly (and sometimes unwillingly) nurture them. Are Hair Relaxers dangerous?
Only if you leave the relaxer on to long in which case you'll have no hair on your head.
they can damage ur hair, depending what type u have and use. but also if u leave it in for too long, can b pretty bad
Yes, if you don't use them correctly.

honey i have been using hair relaxers all my life and i have never encountered any problem.
Before a product is put on the market it is first tested to see if it's harmful or not .
