Differences between hair relaxers/chem straighteners for white and black people?

okay im a white kid, but ever since i was little ive had super crazy afro curly hair. if i want it to look decently flat, it takes three and a half hours of running over it with a flat iron. to change this ive been using hair relaxers.

well, i bought another relaxer to put in my hair. my mom freaked out saying i bought a relaxer for a black person and if i used it my hair would fall out. i dont really believe her, but i really dont want to go bald, so i thought i would ask if thats really true. are there relaxers specifically for blacks that whites cant use? she really seems to think so.Differences between hair relaxers/chem straighteners for white and black people?
I teach Cosmetology so hopefully I can help answer your question. Basically hair is hair and we treat the form so a product that is for extremly curly hair can be used on any enthenticity. A simple answer would be yes, you can use the product you have chosen but I must tell you that it should only be used by a professional. Anyone (whether black or white) can have extreme breakage and damage to the scalp using any type of relaxer product. It is not so much the product that can give you the problem but how it is used, where it is placed, how long it is left on, ect. People aren't built to be able to apply the product properly on themselves! Please consider asking your Mom to take you to a trained professional who can relax your hair successfully and hopefully without the hair breakage and scalp burning that can happen so easily when you try to do such a difficult job yourself. Even if you are successful with the first attempt you will more than likely have problems in successive treatments. A trained professional can teach you much about relaxed hair and taking care of relaxed hair. Best of luck and I will say a little prayer that you decide to visit a professional.Differences between hair relaxers/chem straighteners for white and black people?
Since you bought the 'no lye', 'sensitive scalp' formula, it should not be a problem as long as you follow the instructions properly. Hair only falls out when products are used in a manner in which they weren't intended.

I, on the other hand, no longer use relaxers and I am a black woman. Many women are going back to their natural hair which is healthier in the long run. Embrace your curls!
